General Information

Therapy of serious, often nosocomial infections involving resistant gram-negative organisms

Monitor hematopoietic, renal, and hepatic function, periodically during prolonged therapy.


  • Rash

  • Diarrhea

  • Constipation

  • Nausea

  • Anemia

  • Headache

  • Injection site inflammation


  • Myocardiac infarction

  • Heart failure

  • Syncope

  • Shock

  • Bowel obstruction

  • Clostridium difficile diarrhea

  • Hemorrhage

  • Cholestatic jaundice syndrome

  • Jaundice

  • Liver failure

  • Seizure

  • Renal failure

  • Hypoxia

  • Pleural effusion

  • Pulmonary edema

  • Pulmonary embolism

  • Sepsis

  • Angioedema

  • Anaphylaxis

  • Hypersensitivity reaction

  • Valproic acid - may result in decreased plasma concentrations and loss of anticonvulsant effect

  • If signs and symptoms of severe cutaneous adverse reactions appear, immediately discontinue and consider alternative.

  • Dose reduction or discontinuation and anticonvulsant therapy may be necessary if focal tremors, myoclonus, or seizures occur.

  • Discontinue if allergic reaction occurs.

  • Neuromotor impairment may occur; use with caution in outpatients.
