UTI, especially involving ESBL producing organisms

Perform urine culture and sensitivity, before and after therapy.

Common

  • GI upset, especially diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Backache
  • Dysmenorrhea
  • Paryngitis
  • Rhinitis

Serious, but rare

  • Aplastic anemia
  • Angioedema
  • Cholestatic jaundice syndrome
  • Hepatic necrosis
  • Toxic megacolon
  • Lixisenatide
  • Cholera vaccine, live

Antimicrobial class: Phosphonic acid derivative

Pregnancy category: B

Average serum half life: 6 hours

Urine penetration: Therapeutic

Precautions:

  • Repeat dosing not recommended for a single episode of acute cystitis.
  • Discontinuation of antibacterial use not directed against C. difficile may be required.
