Higher doses (150 mg PO BID) have not been shown to be superior but may be considered in critically ill or obese patients.
Precautions: Not recommended in renal imapirment (ESRD not undergoing dialysis). Discontinue use if allergic-like reaction occurs. One dose delivers 2 g of sorbitol and may cause dyspepsia or diarrhea in patients with hereditary fructose intolerance. Abnormal behavior and delirium leading to potentially fatal injuries may occur, primarily in pediatric patients.
