Dosing

Usual dose 1-2 g/d IV #2

Intractable or severe infection 4 g/d IV #2-3

Usual dose 30-80 mg/kg/d IV #2-3

Intractable or severe infection 150 mg/kg/d IV #2-3

Severe liver impairment Reduce dose or use at intervals as blood concentration persists

Severe renal impairment Use with caution

  • Sepsis

  • Meningitis

  • Secondary infections

  • Laryngopharyngitis

  • Tonsillitis

  • Cellulitis

  • Bronchitis (acute, chronic)

  • Bronchiecstasis

  • Pneumonia

  • Lung abscess

  • Empyema

  • Pyelonephritis

  • Cystitis

  • Prostatitis

  • Epididymitis

  • Cholecystitis

  • Cholangitis

  • Peritonitis

  • Adnexitis

  • Intrauterine infection

  • Parametritis

  • Bartholinitis

Perform skin reaction test prior to treatment.

  • Urticaria

  • Erythema

  • Itchiness

  • Fever

  • Joint pain

  • Diarrhea

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

  • Hemolytic anemia

  • Granulocytopenia

  • Erythrocytopenia

  • Eosinophilia

  • Thrombocytopenia

  • Increased liver enzymes

  • Stevens-Johnson syndrome

  • Toxic epidermal necrolysis

Diuretics (i.e. Furosemide)

Antimicrobial class: 3rd Generation Cephalosporin
