General Information

Gram negative organisms, may have an inducible chromosomal beta-lactamase that causes resistance to many beta-lactams (except carbapenems) with prolonged antibiotic exposure.

  • GI flora, especially in hospitalized patients

  • Infection usually in nosocomial setting

Nosocomial infections:

  • Hospital-acquired or ventilator-associated pneumonia

  • UTI

  • Prosthetic device and line infections

  • Wound infections

May require contact precautions if highly resistant
