General Information

Nonfermenting aerobic gram negative bacillus

  • Ubiquitous, water-associated pathogen, easily selected for by the administration of non-antipseudomonal antimicrobials

  • Common in hospital environment

May be a colonizer of diseased airways and other sites

Important pathogen of generally nosocomial infections including:

  • Pneumonia - HAP/VAP

  • Intra-abdominal infections

  • Vascular catheter infection

  • Burns/wound infection

  • Osteomyelitis

  • UTI

Nail puncture through shoes can cause osteomyelitis.

May require contact +/- droplet precautions if highly resistant
