Usual syndromes

  • Oral/dental/tonsilar infections and abscesses
  • Head and neck infection including Lemierres disease (septic jugular thrombophlebitis) associated with F. necrophorum
  • Empyema

Less common

  • Intra-abdominal abscess
  • Diabetic foot infection

Bacteremia with F. necrophorum should prompt thorough investigation for septic thrombophlebitis (Lemierres)

Young adults with jugular vein septic thrombophlebitis, common to have metastatic abscesses, particularly to the lung

Surgical drainage as appropriate
