General Information

Resistant aerobic Gram-negative bacillus.

Generally causes nosocomial infection in North America and can occur in outbreaks in this setting.

Infections seen in military personnel in war zones as well as natural disaster settings.

  • VAP
  • Bloodstream infections
  • Biofilm infections of prosthetic devices
  • Meningitis post head trauma or post neurosurgery
  • Wound infections (uncommon)
  • Skin and soft tissue infections (uncommon)
  • May be a colonizer

Infectious Diseases consultation recommended if multi-drug resistant isolate.
