General Information

Cefazolin 2g IV q8h for invasive infections (adjust for renal function)

  • Gram positive cocci in clusters
  • Coagulase-negative staphylococcus but behaves like S. aureus

Skin flora

  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Endocarditis
  • Osteomyelitis
  • Blood stream infections
  • Septic arthritis
  • Prosthetic joint infections

Coagulase negative but clinically behaves more like Staphylococcus aureus and is more virulent than other coagulase-negative staphylococci. Should be treated like S. aureus
