Dosing

2 g IV q8h

2 g IV q12h with probenecid 1 g PO 30 min before each cefazolin dose

2 g IV q12-24h with probenecid 1 g PO 30 min before each cefazolin dose

General Information

  • Drug of choice for invasive methicillin-sensitive S. aureus infections such as endocarditis, joint infections, osteomyelitis, etc

  • Invasive Streptococci group A/B/C/G

  • Surgical prophylaxis

Probenecid - prolonged half-life. Drug interaction has been used therapeutically to give once daily cefazolin.
