General Information

  • Meropenem

  • Ciprofloxacin (for oral step-down)
  • TMP/SMX (for oral step-down)
  • Gram-negative bacilli, motile, indole positive, of the Enterobacterales family

  • May produce inducible AmpC beta-lactamase and extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)

  • GI flora

  • Organism increases urinary pH by splitting urea, leading to stone formation in the urinary tract

  • UTIs

  • Bacteremia (including catheter-related)

  • Pneumonia (HAP/VAP)

Proteus vulgaris species is more resistant to antimicrobials than Proteus mirabilis
