General Information

Infections of the skin, bone/joint, throat, tonsils, and urinary tract.

Most commonly gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhea and vomiting

May increase warfarin levels.

Available as a 500 mg capsule.

  • Oral

  • Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to one or more of the penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs)

  • First generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic (bactericidal)

  • Half-life elimination: 1.5 to 2 hours; 20 to 24 hours in renal failure

  • Time to peak serum concentration: Within 70 to 90 minutes

  • Excretion: Urine (>90% as unchanged drug within 24 hours)
