General Information

Pathogen directed therapy for CNS, intravascular, intraabdominal, urinary and other infections especially Enterococcus and Listeria.

  • Allergy and rash as for all beta-lactams
  • EBV related rash (not allergy)
  • Rare: cytopenias, +ve Coombs.

Allopurinol: increased risk of rash

Antimicrobial class: Aminopenicillin

Pregnancy category: B

Breastfeeding: Excreted in breast milk at low concentrations, generally considered compatible

Average serum half life: 1 hour

Distribution: 0.29L/kg; distributed to blister fluid, urine, peritoneal fluid, pleural fluid, middle ear fluid, intestinal mucosa, bone, gallbladder, lung, female reproductive tissue, bile and inflamed meninges
