  • Serum flucytosine concentrations after ~3 days of treatment and as clinically indicated
    • Peak = 2 hrs after dose
      • Goal: 50-80
    • Trough = 30 mins prior to next dose
      • Not always indicated
      • Goal: >25
  • Bone marrow suppression - anemia, neutropenia, leukopenia, pancytopenia, thrombocytopenia
  • Hepatic injury
  • Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting
  • Renal failure
  • Confusion, fatigue, weakness
  • Hypokalemia
  • Absorption: Rapid
  • Distribution: Into CSF, aqueous humor, joints, peritoneal fluid; Vd: 0.6 L/kg
  • Protein binding: 3% to 4%
  • Metabolism: Minimally hepatic; deaminated both in yeasts and possibly via gut bacteria to 5-fluorouracil
