Susceptibilities

General Information

  • Penicillins

  • Ceftriaxone

Gram positive cocci in chains, facultatively anaerobic, variable hemolysis

  • Normal oral/GI flora

  • Consists of S. anginosus, S. intermedius, and S. constellatus

  • Abscesses: intra-abdominal, hepatic, cerebral, empyema

  • Bacteremia

  • Rarely: endocarditis

Generally, abscesses need surgical drainage depending on size/location
