Case Synopsis

A 55 year old woman is undergoing a routine dental cleaning (including scaling as well as a dental extraction) and asks you whether or not she should receive prophylactic antibiotics.

Her medical conditions include hypertension. Her surgical history includes a total right knee replacement, two years ago. She has no other prosthetic devices and has no prior history of endocarditis.

Do you recommend this patient receives antibiotic prophylaxis prior to her dental procedure?
