Key Investigations

Perform a thorough physical examination to find potential sources of infection and metastatic foci.

Remove central lines.

New PICC lines should NOT be inserted until there is documented clearance of bacteremia.

Echocardiogram: Recommended in all patients with Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia due to high risk of endocardial involvement

All patients with Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia should be evaluated with a trans-thoracic echocardiogram (TTE).
