Prophylaxis

Prophylactic antibiotics are of no benefit in patients with severe, acute pancreatitis and prophylactic therapy increases the risk of selecting out for multi-drug resistant organisms and fungi.

Prophylactic antifungals are not recommended in patients with severe, acute pancreatitis.

Enteral nutrition compared to parenteral nutrition has been shown to decrease infectious complications of acute pancreatitis.
