If HAP suspected: obtain blood cultures and respiratory cultures (sputum, endotracheal aspirate or bronchoscopic samples)
If significant pleural fluid on CXR or U/S – consider thoracentesis for sampling ± drainage
Ideally, collect cultures prior to administration of antimicrobials.
