Gram negative coccobacillus

Normal respiratory flora

H. influenza is known to be a colonizer of the upper respiratory tract but can be associated with infectious syndromes including the following:

  • Pneumonia
  • Meningitis
  • Epiglottitis
  • Bacteremia

Consider droplet precautions in patients with epiglottitis.
