Community Acquired Intraabdominal Infection

Definitions

Community Acquired IAI includes patients WITHOUT the following risk factors:  

  • Hospitalization for at least 48hrs during the previous 90 days
  • Resident of a SNF or LTCF during the previous 30 days
  • Received IV infusion therapy, wound care, or renal replacement therapy within preceding 30 days
  • Received several days of broad-spectrum antimicrobial therapy within previous 90 days
  • Known to have been colonized or infected previously with a resistant pathogen
  • Post-operative infection

Empiric Therapy

Perforated or abscessed appendicitis and other infections of mild-to-moderate severity

Severe physiologic disturbance, advanced age, or immunocompromised state
