General Information

Endocarditis:

  • Ceftriaxone

  • Ampicillin/sulbactam

Musculoskeletal:

  • Ampicillin

Gram negative coccobacilli.

Colonizer of the oropharynx.

  • Most common cause of septic arthritis, osteomyelitis, and bacteremia in children <4 years
  • In addition to acute osteoarticular infections, can rarely also cause other invasive infections
  • Hematogenous osteomyelitis
  • Bacteremia
  • Infective endocarditis; one of the HACEK acronym slow growing fastidious gram-negative organisms that cause endocarditis

Recovered from culture of normally sterile body fluid, including blood and joint aspirate. PCR more sensitive than culture.
