General Information

Fermenting (can initially appear as a non-fermenter) Gram negative rod, of the Enterobacteriaceae family. Often highly resistant.

Environmental organism, can colonize humans.

Infection usually in nosocomial setting.

Causes nosocomial outbreaks, and is resistant to some disinfectants.

Nosocomial infections:

  • Pneumonia (HAP)
  • UTI
  • Wound infections
  • Prosthetic device and line infections
