Dosing

General Information

Management of infections due to multi-drug resistant Enterobactericiae, Acinetobacter, and Pseudomonas on a case-by-case basis.

Severe infectious caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-negative organisms when other antimicrobial options are limited.

  • Infections due to non-MDR pathogens for which alternate therapy, particularly beta-lactam antibiotics, are available

  • Prophylaxis

Serum creatinine, BUN; urine output; signs of neurotoxicity

  • Nephrotoxicity in up to 20% of patients

  • Phlebitis at infusion sites

  • Neurotoxicity

  • Inhaled form: Possible bronchospasm, ARDS

Pregnancy category: C

Breastfeeding: No studies have evaluated serum levels or adverse effects in breastfed infants whose mothers were receiving colistimethate

Breastfeeding is acceptable with the use of inhaled colistin or colistimethate
