Dosing

General Information

  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Sinusitis
  • Otitis media
  • Respiratory tract infections (AECOPD, CAP)
  • Urinary tract infections
  • IAI
  • Prophylaxis/treatment of bite wounds
  • Dental infections
  • For prolonged therapy, monitor renal, hepatic, and CBC periodically.
  • In patients with hepatic impairment, monitor LFTs regularly.
  • GI intolerance
  • C. difficile colitis
  • Allergy/rash (immediate or delayed)
    • Note: Non-allergic rash is more common during viral illness
  • Drug fever
  • Cytopenias
  • CNS: seizures (especially with high doses in patients with renal failure)
  • Interstitial nephritis
  • LFTs elevation
  • Reversible cholestatic hepatitis associated with clavulanate
  • Allopurinol - increased risk of rash.  
  • Methotrexate - concomitant use may increase methotrexate serum concentrations and increase the risk of toxicity (e.g. neutropenia).  
  • Mycophenolate - may decrease serum concentrations of the active metabolite(s) of Mycophenolate.
  • Warfarin - possible increased anticoagulant effect.
