Dosing

General Information

  • Therapy of Streptococcal and Enterococcal infections as well as susceptible gram negative infections.
  • Commonly used for upper respiratory infections and urinary tract infections.
  • H. pylori infection (combination therapy)
  • With prolonged therapy, monitor renal, hepatic, and CBC periodically.
  • GI intolerance
  • Allergy/rash (immediate or delayed)
    • Note: Non-allergic rash is more common during viral illness
  • Drug fever
  • Cytopenias
  • CNS: seizures (especially with high doses in patients with renal failure)
  • Interstitial nephritis
  • LFTs elevation
  • Allopurinol - increased risk of rash.  
  • Methotrexate - concomitant use may increase methotrexate serum concentrations and increase the risk of toxicity (e.g. neutropenia).  
  • Mycophenolate - may decrease serum concentrations of the active metabolite(s) of Mycophenolate.  
  • Warfarin - possible increased anticoagulant effect.
