Non-Purulent Skin and Soft Tissue Infection (Streptococcus)

Empiric Treatment

No signs or symptoms of systemic infection:

  • Typical cases of cellulitis (erythema, edema, tenderness, skin warmth)

No signs or symptoms of systemic infection:

  • Typical cases of cellulitis (erythema, edema, tenderness, skin warmth)

Presence of systemic signs and symptoms of infection:

  • Temperature >38°C or <36°C
  • Tachypnea >24 breaths/min
  • Tachycardia >90 bpm
  • WBC >12,000 or <4,000 mm3

OR

  • Evidence of penetrating trauma
  • Nasal colonization with MRSA
  • IVDU
  • Neutropenia
  • Sepsis
