Purulent Skin & Soft Tissue Infection (Staphylococcus)

Empiric Treatment

  • No signs and symptoms of systemic infection
    • Carbuncle
    • Abscesses
    • Furuncles
    • Erysipelas
  • Presence of systemic signs and symptoms of infection
    • Temperature > 38°C or < 36°C
    • Tachypnea > 24 breaths/min
    • Tachycardia > 90 bpm
    • WBC > 12,000 or < 4,000 mm3

OR

  • Hypotension
  • Failure of previous antibiotic therapy
  • Markedly impaired host defences
