Pathogens
Staphylococcus lugdunensis

Staphylococcus lugdunensis

Susceptibilities

General Information

If oxacillin-susceptible:

  • Oxacillin
  • Cefazolin

If oxacillin-resistant:

  • Vancomycin
  • Daptomycin
  • Linezolid

Gram-positive cocci in clusters, coagulase-negative

Skin flora

  • Endocarditis
  • Osteomyelitis
  • Bloodstream infections
  • Prosthetic joint infections
  • Acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI)

Clinically, S. lundunensis behaves more like Staphylococcus aureus and is more virulent than other coagulase-negative Staphylococci spp. As such, it should NOT routinely be dismissed from the blood as a contaminant
