General Information

  • Ceftriaxone

ESBL-producing strains

  • Meropenem
  • Ampicillin/Sulbactam or Amoxicillin/Clavulanate
  • Cefazolin
  • Aminoglycosides

If confirmed susceptible:

  • Ciprofloxacin
  • Gram-negative bacilli, motile, indole-negative, of the Enterobacterales family
  • GI flora
  • Organism increases urinary pH by splitting urea, leading to stone formation in the urinary tract
  • UTIs
  • Bacteremia (including catheter-related)
  • Pneumonia (HAP/VAP)
  • Intra-abdominal infections

Proteus vulgaris species is more resistant to antimicrobials than Proteus mirabilis
