Clinical Considerations

Pneumonia occurring ≥ 48 hours after admission

  • Should be obtained prior to starting or changing antibiotics
  • Endotracheal aspirate or bronchoscopic specimen if possible

Increasing evidence has found that many healthcare-associated pneumonia (HCAP) patients are not at high risk for multi-drug resistant (MDR) pathogens
