General Information

Gram positive cocci in short chains.

GI flora.

Mainly a nosocomial pathogen.

  • Endocarditis
  • Intra-abdominal or hepatobiliary infection
  • UTI
  • Prosthetic device-related infections (lines, heart valve/joint replacements, etc.)

More likely to cause true infection in immunocompromised individuals or after selection pressure from antimicrobial administration has eliminated other organisms.
