Dosing

General Information

Use in Mycobacterium tuberculosis when rifampin cannot be used due to drug-drug interactions.

Lab

  • Periodic CBC to monitor for neutropenia, thrombocytopenia

Clinical

  • Multiple drug interactions
  • Polymyalgia
  • Uveitis

Rifabutin is a less potent CYP3A inducer than rifampin. Review medications carefully.

  • Should never be used as monotherapy
  • May discolor bodily secretions (yellow-reddish); caution in contact lens wearers
