General Information

Neurocysticercosis for inpatient.

Multitude of parasitic infections (see organisms under spectrum of activity).

  • Monitor LFTs
  • GI side effects most common: N/V, abdominal pain
  • Increased LFTs, more common when treating hydatid disease
  • Carbamazepine: decreased albendazole levels
  • Dexamethasone: increased albendazole levels
  • Theophylline: increased risk of theophylline toxicity

Cost per day based on dose of 400mg PO BID.

Antimicrobial class: Anthelmintic. Benzimidazole carbamate.

Pregnancy: avoid in first trimester, risk vs benefit in 2nd/3rd trimesters

Average serum half life: 8-12 hours

Urine penetration: Therapeutic

CSF penetration: Therapeutic
