Ceftaroline is a new broad-spectrum cephalosporin with a spectrum of activity similar to ceftriaxone, but with activity against MRSA.

Gram positive

  • Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA and MRSA)
  • Streptococci
  • Coagulase-negative Staphylococci

Gram negative

  • Most Enterobacteriaceae
  • H. influenzae
  • M catarrhalis
  • Pasteurella spp

Anaerobes

  • Peptostreptococci

Does not cover

  • Enterococci
  • B. fragilis
  • Pseudomonas and other more resistant gram negatives
  • ESBL or AmpC producing Enterobacteriaceae
  • Listeria
  • Acinetobacter
