Dosing

General Information

Skin and soft tissue infections.

Polymicrobial infections of the respiratory tract or abdomen.

Covers Gram-negative anaerobes and does not need to be used in combination with metronidazole.

Lab

  • In patients with preexisting hepatic impairment, periodic hepatic funtion monitoring

Clinical

  • Hypersensitivity reactions
  • Allergy/Skin rash

  • Diarrhea

  • Pain at injection site/phlebitis

  • Allopurinol - increased rash
  • Decreased bioavailability of hydroxycholoroquine (separate by 2 hours)
  • Increased risk of seizures with other agents that lower threshold (eg, bupropion, donepezil)

Cost based on dose of 3g IV q6h.
