Aspiration Pneumonia

Routine Practices

  • Witnessed aspiration or suspected aspiration event or risk of aspiration (e.g. neurological compromise)
  • Characteristic new focal consolidation on chest xray,
  • Fever >38.0,

AND

  • New onset of symptoms suggestive of lower respiratory tract illness
  • Recommend ID consult if poor response to treatment
