Neonatal Pneumonia

Droplet / Contact Precautions

  • Droplet/Contact precautions until viral etiology can be ruled out.
  • Neonatal pneumonia can present non-specifically without prominent respiratory symptoms; consider if febrile, lethargic, apneic, hemodynamically unstable, acidotic
  • Obtain chest xray
  • Obtain blood culture +/- LP prior to starting antibiotics
  • Recommend ID consult if poor response to treatment, severe disease, or unusual organism recovered
