Isolation Precautions Protocols

Clinical Considerations

Long Term Care facilities are to continue to follow the isolation precautions in Long Term Care COVID guidelines

A person is unvaccinated when they have not received any doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

A person is partially vaccinated who has one dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine series plus 21 days.

A person is fully vaccinated who is ≥14 days after receiving their second dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine series or their first dose of a one-dose COVID-19 vaccine series.

Children under the age of 12 will follow their parents/guardians vaccine status for isolation precautions.

An unvaccinated person who travels outside of PEI is required to isolate for 8 days from the date they return to PEI, with testing on day 8. A negative lab result is required before isolation can be discontinued.

A partially vaccinated person who travels outside of PEI is required to isolate for 8 days from the date they return to PEI, with testing on day 8. A negative test result is required before isolation can be discontinued.

A fully vaccinated person who travels within Canada does not have to isolate.

A fully vaccinated person who travels outside of Canada does NOT have to isolate if they have been exempted from the federal quarantine requirement unless CPHO directs them to isolate for 8 days. If required to isolate per CPHO, they must isolate for 8 days from the date they return to PEI with testing on day 8.

A fully vaccinated person who travels outside of Canada and has not been exempted from the federal quarantine requirement is required to isolate for 14 days from the date they return to Canada, with at least 8 days of isolation in PEI. Testing as per current testing guidelines.

Note

If patient is discharged prior to their isolation being completed and they meet the criteria for home self-isolation:

  • Please provide patient with at home self-isolation information
  • Contact your local Infection Control Professional when a patient is being discharged, who will gather the required information to have the patient added to Operation Isolation
