General Information

Azithromycin for urinary tract or genital infections.

Erythromycin for neonates with respiratory infections.

Ureaplasma urealyticum is a bacterium belonging to the genus Ureaplasma and the family Mycoplasmataceae.

A common symptom associated with these infections is the "fishy" smell that is created due to the production of ammonia by the hydrolysis or urea.

U. urealyticum can cause urethritis and bacterial vaginosis.

It has been linked to infertility in both males and females.

It may latently infect the chorionic villi tissues of pregnant women and result in preterm birth.

Some associated neonatal outcomes include bronchopulmonary dysplasia, intraventricular hemorrhage and necrotizing enterocolitis.
