General Information

  • Therapy of Streptococcal and other documented susceptible infections
  • Syphilis

Allergy/rash (immediate or delayed), seizures, cytopenias, eosinophilia, interstitial nephritis, abnormal liver enzymes, serum sickness

Pediatric:

  • Injection: 1 mu/vial, 5 mu/vial, 10 mu/vial

Neonatal:

  • IV: 1, 5, 10 million unit vial (1 million units = 600mg)
  • BCCH uses penicillin G sodium which provides 1.68 mEq Na+ per 1,000,000 U
  • Consult infectious diseases for all cases of congenital syphilis

Antimicrobial class: Penicillin

Average serum half life: Neonates: <6 days: 3.1 hours, ≥14 days: 1.4 hours. Pediatrics: 0.4-1.3 hours. Adults normal renal function: 30 - 50 minutes

Route of Elimination: Renal (58% to 85% unchanged drug)
