Treatment of sensitive MSSA and CoNS infections
Neonatal (Cloxacillin Sodium):
Oral cloxacillin is poorly absorbed (bioavailability ~50%, reduced by food).
Consider using cephalexin as oral-stepdown in place of oral cloxacillin, as cephalexin has higher bioavailability, is more palatable and causes less GI upset.
Antimicrobial class: Antistaphylococcal penicillin
Average serum half life: Adults: 0.5-1.5 h (prolonged in renal impairment and in neonates)
Route of Elimination: Urine and feces
