General Information

Should not be used as monotherapy except when given for prophylaxis

Neonatal:

Monitor LFTs and bilirubin, CBC

Will cause orange discolouration of body fluids (urine, saliva, tears) and soft contact lenses

Rifampin induces hepatic liver enzymes (CYP450) which may lower serum levels of a member of a number of medications. Check for drug interactions.

Pediatric:

  • Capsule: 150mg, 300mg
  • Oral suspension (BCCH): 20 mg/mL

Neonatal: 

  • Capsule: 150mg, 300mg
  • Oral suspension: 10 mg/mL or 25 mg/mL may be compounded
  • Injectable: 600mg vial - can only be obtained by contacting the Health Canada Special Access Program

Taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals
