Dosing

General Information

  • Lyme Disease
  • Community Acquired Pneumonia
  • Acute exacerbation of COPD
  • Acute uncomplicated bacterial rhinosinusitis
  • Non-invasive Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections
  • GI upset: take with food but not with dairy
  • Photosensitivity rash
  • Teeth staining
  • Erosive esophagitis (drink plenty of water with dose)
  • Divalent cations - decreased absorption therefore recommend to space by 2 hours
  • Increased digoxin levels
  • Increased INR with warfarin
  • Some anticonvulsants can decrease doxycycline levels
  • Take with food to reduce GI upset
  • The patient should not lie down for 30 minutes after taking doxycycline (to reduce the risk of esophageal irritation)
  • Avoid iron, magnesium, calcium for at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after doxycycline administration
