Dosing

General Information

  • Drug of choice for invasive methicillin-sensitive S. aureus infections, such as endocarditis, joint infections, osteomyelitis, etc
  • Invasive Streptococci group A/B/C/G
  • Surgical prophylaxis
  • For prolonged therapies periodically monitor CBC, lytes and serum creatinine
  • Allergy (immediate or delayed).
  • Can cause positive Coombs, cytopenias, and hepatic and renal laboratory abnormalities.

Probenecid - prolonged half-life. Drug interaction has been used therapeutically to give once daily ceFAZolin.

  • Sensitivity testing based on 2 g IV q8h (renal dosing required)
