General Information

Nonfermenting aerobic gram negative bacillus

Ubiquitous, water-associated pathogen, easily selected for by the administration of non-antipseudomonal antimicrobials.

Common in hospital environment.

May be a colonizer of diseased airways and other sites.

Important pathogen of generally nosocomial infections including:

  • UTI
  • Pneumonia - HAP/VAP
  • CNS
  • Intra-abdominal infections
  • Bacteremia
  • Vascular catheter infection
  • Burns/wound infection
  • Osteomyelitis
  • Others

May require contact +/- droplet precautions if highly resistant.

Infectious Disease consultation recommended to assist in evaluation, management and infection control measures of complicated infections or Multi-drug resistant organisms.
