General Information

Gram negative rod, of the Enterobacteriaceae family

NOT an AmpC organism.

Produces class A cephalosporinase, a type of beta-lactamase.

Most commonly UTI, but also causes other nosocomial infections.

Proteus vulgaris species is more resistant to antimicrobials than Proteus mirabilis.
