Infection Prevention

Recommendations

Any patient suspected of having influenza should be managed using Modified Droplet Precautions

Patients who have symptoms consistent with Influenza and who are being treated for Influenza infection will remain in Isolation Precautions regardless of a negative test or no test done

Duration of isolation is until patient is afebrile for 24 hours while off fever-reducing medication, or 7 days after onset of illness; whichever is LONGER

Consult with Infection Prevention for patients who are critically ill or immunocompromised as these patients may shed virus for more prolonged periods of time

Treatment with antivirals does not alter the duration of precautions
