General Information

Gram positive cocci in clusters. Coagulase negative.

Skin flora

  •  Endocarditis

  •  Osteomyelitis

  •  Blood stream infections

  •  Prosthetic joint infections

  •  Skin and soft tissue infections

Coagulase negative but clinically behaves more like Staphylococcus aureus and is more virulent than other coagulase-negative Staphylococci.

Bacteremia - ID consult strongly recommended, this should NEVER be considered a contaminant if found in the blood.
