General Information

Nonfermenting aerobic gram negative bacillus

Ubiquitous, water-associated pathogen, easily selected for by the administration of non-antipseudomonal antimicrobials.

Common in hospital environment.

May be a colonizer of diseased airways and other sites.

Important pathogen of generally nosocomial infections including:

  • UTI, catheter-associated

  • Pneumonia - HAP/VAP

  • Diabetic foot infection associated w/ penetrating trauma through a shoe

  • Hot tub folliculitis

  • Nosocomial CNS

  • Vascular catheter infection

  • Burns/wound infection

  • Osteomyelitis

May require contact +/- droplet precautions if highly resistant
